Student Health Plan

SCSU Health & Dental Plan

To help Sault College students pay for the health services they need, the SCSU has partnered with Studentcare in order to provide students with extended health and dental coverage. The Plan is designed specifically to fill the gaps in provincial health care (the Ontario Health Insurance Plan) and other basic health-care programs.

Who’s Covered?

All full-time fee paying students are automatically covered by the SCSU Health & Dental Plan. Certain exceptions exist. Please check your student account to confirm if you have been charged the Plan fees.

What’s Covered?

Among other benefits, the Plan covers:
– 80% for prescription drugs, up to $5,000 per policy year
– Up to $1,200 for health practitioners (physiotherapists, chiropractors, etc.)
– Up to $300 in vision care (eye exams, eyeglasses and contact lenses, laser eye surgery)
– Up to $500 in dental care (checkups, cleanings, fillings, extractions, endodontics, periodontics, etc.)
– Travel health coverage (up to $5,000,000 per incident, 120 days per trip), trip cancellation and trip interruption in the event of a medical emergency

Visit www.studentcare.ca for complete details.

How Much Does It Cost?

The Plan fee for full-year coverage (Sept. 1, 2016 – Aug. 31, 2017) is $190.00. New Winter semester students pay $126.60 for coverage from Jan. 1 – Aug. 31, 2017, while new Summer semester students pay $63.30 for coverage from May 1 – Aug. 31, 2017. The cost of the Plan is part of your student fees.

Can I Change My Coverage?

If you are covered by another extended health and dental plan (e.g. a parent’s or spouse’s employee plan, not OHIP), you can combine both plans to maximize your overall coverage and reduce or eliminate out-of-pocket costs.

Alternatively, if you have other equivalent coverage, you can opt out of the Plan during the Change-of-Coverage Period from Sept. 6 – Oct. 4, 2016 (Jan. 9 – 27, 2017 for new Winter semester students; May 1 – 19, 2017 for new summer semester students) and receive a full credit to your student account for the amount of the Plan.

If you are eligible, the Change-of-Coverage Period is also when you can enrol your spouse and/or dependent children in the Plan. Visit www.studentcare.ca for instructions.
